Convenience and the [scaredy] cat

This week is on Acts 24:24-25:

Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, "That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you."

Doesn't this experience happen with everyone who encounters the gospel? First you're really curious, but then you realize that everything is going to be different. That's scary! How do you react to that?

Felix freaked out. He told Paul that he would send for him when it was convenient. Usually that time never comes. No time is convenient for being frightened and inconvenienced. Felix told the kingdom of God, "Don't call us. We'll call you."

Have you left things like that with God? Were you clipping along pretty well with your relationship with Jesus, only to hit a wall and stop? Did things get too inconvenient? Did you just get scared of what it might mean in terms of change? Send for him again!
