God is in our head

This week's old testamental goodness is Ezekiel 11:1-6:

Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the gate of the house of the LORD that faces east. There at the entrance to the gate were twenty-five men, and I saw among them Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, leaders of the people. The LORD said to me, "Son of man, these are the men who are plotting evil and giving wicked advice in this city. They say, 'Will it not soon be time to build houses? This city is a cooking pot, and we are the meat.' Therefore prophesy against them; prophesy, son of man."

Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon me, and he told me to say: "This is what the LORD says: That is what you are saying, O house of Israel, but I know what is going through your mind. You have killed many people in this city and filled its streets with the dead.

Ezekiel is an a refugee camp in Iraq, and God finds him and speaks a series of very specific messages to and through him. He's just a little guy in a filthy remote place, surrounded by lots of guys just like him, yet God pinpoints him for his work. He's so small, and yet we just read about him again, thousands of years after he died.

God took little insignificant Ezekiel and transported him in a vision to a place where a bunch of powerful men were hanging out. They were evil men, and they were getting away with it. They didn't think God could find them in their evil, yet he did. He knew their evil, he knew their names, and he knew where to find them.

God knows us so well that we can't hide anything from him. Have you ever wanted something and received it before you even prayed for it? God is everywhere, even inside of our heads. He knows what we want before we want it. He knows when we do something good, even if we don't tell anyone. And unfortunately, he knows when we've done something wrong, even if we've done a great job of hiding it.

It's a good thing God likes us. With full access to every part of our being, and infinite power, God could really make life miserable if he wasn't already on our side. Even if you're just another refugee away from the promised land, he's with you, even among you. Wherever you are, God is right there.
