The love connection

This week is on 1 John 3:1-3:

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

How great is God's love? How many of the people you know would you be willing to adopt as children, giving them access to your car, your house, your possessions and finances, entrusting them with authority to represent your family name and conduct business on its behalf? I'd be hard pressed to think of any, and these are people I share my life with. God has done that for us, because his love is so limitless that he is willing to do that.

God isn't waiting for us to be perfect before he includes us in his family. John spells that out when he says that we're children of God now. Do you know anyone who is perfect now? What we will be in the future is still a mystery, but while we're here on earth, we're adopted into God's loving family. That means today.

We have access to God's power to heal, his limitless knowledge, the natural resources he incorporated into the earth, and everything else that God has produced for our benefit. We have the inside connection. We can speak to the creator of the universe, and be connected with him, all because of God's incredible love. All of the favoritism and corruption in the world can't get us connections like the one Jesus scored for us by giving his life. That's something to think about.

Be thankful and be aware that God has paid the price to have us adopted into his family. If you're any good at naming your own faults, or the faults of other Christians, you'll understand what a good deal that is for us. Nothing is out of our reach if it brings us closer to him. You're not just anyone anymore. You're the child of God. You're connected.
